The Road to Ubar: Finding the Atlantis of the Sands
by Nicholas Clapp

The most fabled city in ancient Arabia was Ubar, described in the Koran as "the many-columned city whose like has not been built in the whole land." But like Sodom and Gomorrah, Ubar was destroyed by God for the sins of its people. In the 1980s, author Nicholas Clapp stumbled upon the legend of this lost city. Pouring over medieval manuscripts, he discovered a slip of the pen that had misled generations of explorers and in satellite images he found evidence of ancient caravan routes. After two expeditions to Arabia with a team of scientists, the remains of a remarkable city with eight towers, thirty foot walls and artifacts dating back 4,000 years was uncovered. They had found Ubar.

"With its balance of intrigue, humor, and detail, The Road to Ubar reads like a mystery novel. During the unfolding search for one of civilization's oldest cities, Nicholas Clapp's story of treasures hidden in the sands becomes a treasure of its own. "
--Delia and Mark Owens, authors of Cry of the Kalahari
